Do you have a favorite section of the newsletter? What makes it your favorite?

 The Scripture Challenge. It is set up so we can read the Book of Mormon completely by year’s end. I can read it, or listen to it on my phone while driving or getting ready for the day. However, I usually listen to the daily scripture goal while playing a favorite phone game. What is great about this, I repeatedly play the chapter over and over, so I don’t miss anything while I am playing games. Ironically, I have actually found myself savoring and pondering the scriptures more doing this method because I really don’t want to miss anything being said. In fact, I find that by doing this repeated method of listening to the scriptures that I will have technically “read” the Book of Mormon 7-8 times completely by the end of the year. It has also cut down my game distraction/addiction because now I do not allow myself to play games on my phone unless I am listening to the scriptures.

What is the most rewarding part of what you do with Latter Day Light? 

The most rewarding part of being a staff writer for LDL is the sweet spirit it brings into my home and my soul all day long. Because I focus on compiling the thoughts on the Study Corner talks, I feel like I am daily sitting at the feet of the prophets and apostles, being instructed on living a more Christ-like life. It truly has helped me become more dedicated in my commitment to return home to Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father. This is the best job ever, and I hope it will last until the day I pass through the veil. (Hopefully, many years down the road. 🙂)

What’s one thing you hope readers will take away from Latter Day Light’s newsletter? 

I hope that the readers will feel the unbelievable love, goodness, and kindness of God, the Father, and His son, Jesus Christ. I hope that the readers will realize how eager They are to help us through our trials and repentance process. How eager they are to be with us and help us back to our Heavenly home.

What is one interesting fact about your childhood?

 My parents joined the Church when I was five, but what I didn’t realize until later as a young adult is that somehow I always knew from the time I was a little child that the whole point of life was to get back home to God.

Do you have a favorite family tradition or memory? 

My mom had 3 more boys after I was 10. My favorite memories were playing with the boys and their friends. I was always Mom and my brothers’ favorite babysitter.

What’s your favorite book of all time (besides the scriptures)? 

Sorry, but it was the huge set of Bible Stories books, the blue ones that used to be in dentists’ and doctors’ offices, at least while I was young. Mom went and bought the entire set for us. I would re-read them every summer vacation. (That may sound nerdy, but my oldest brother re-reads the entire encyclopedia set, A-Z, every summer, and that really is nerdy.) I absolutely love all  the Bible stories

Do you have a favorite movie or TV show? 

It changes frequently, but the longest-standing favorite is “White Christmas”. I loved the costumes and actors/actresses, the music, the dancing, and of course, the plot. It is just a feel-good story.

Outside of the Gospel, who is your favorite historical figure and why? 

I have much respect for George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.

Do you prefer the mountains, the beach, or the desert? 

I love them all, but I get really homesick for the Pacific Ocean. I grew up in a little beach town north of San Diego.

What is one gospel principle you are passionate about? 

Repentance. It is my favorite Gospel principle because I use it so much.

Who is your favorite prophet from this dispensation, and why? 

Wilford Woodruff. Some of the trials that he experienced, I have also suffered, and I just feel a connection.

What is your favorite scripture? Why does it resonate with you? 

“Cease to be idle; cease to be unclean; cease to find fault one with another; cease to sleep longer than is needful; retire to thy bed early, that ye may not be weary; arise early, that your bodies and your minds may be invigorated.”  D&C 88:124   

It resonates with me because it captures areas of my life where I need to improve, especially “retire to thy bed early.” Also cease to be idle; I become easily distracted from more important things to do by too much reading (I love, love, love to read), and I already mentioned my internet/phone game playing. (I do want to mention that while I have many faults, I am not guilty of being a gossiper or a fault-finder.)

What was one of the most memorable talks from the newsletter? 

There are so many, but currently, it is from the last conference. “Burying Your Weapons of Rebellion” by D. Todd Christofferson. It struck so many spiritual chords for me and greatly influenced me to see what I was allowing to distract me from better activities.

What is your favorite hymn? 

Sorry, I love all the hymns! Why? They each highlight areas that I need to pay attention to.  

Is there a particular temple that has special meaning to you? 

The St. George, Utah Temple. Why? My husband and I met at college in St. George and had many dates walking around the temple, holding hands, and sitting in the rose garden. And then we were married there. I think it is one of the most beautiful temples ever.

How do you stay spiritually grounded in the midst of life’s challenges? 

Writing for this website is the best way I have ever stayed spiritually grounded.
