1834 – The Prophet Joseph Smith, traveling and recruiting brethren to join Zion’s Camp to help the Saints in Missouri, preached in a schoolhouse finding “a few disciples who were firm in the faith; and, after meeting found many believing and could hardly get away from them’ (History of the Church, 2:42).  They stayed at the home of Warren Cowdery.

1843 – John B. Cowan took the decision of Judge Pope, made in January, along with other legal documents, to present them to the Governor of Iowa.  It was hoped he would recall a writ for the Prophet Joseph’s arrest if he were to cross the river into Iowa to visit the Saints there.  The writ for his arrest had been issued in response to the request of the Governor of Missouri and it was hoped the recent decision made in the District Court in Springfield, Illinois, would also end the Prophet’s legal problems in Iowa.
