@collins: Sorry for the late reply. The golden plates seen by Joseph Smith were retrieved by an angel and taken back to Heaven. There is definitely an element of faith when it comes to the Book of Mormon, just like there is with any book claiming divine inspiration and revelation (we do not even have the original manuscripts of the Bible). Yet, if you read the Book of Mormon from cover to cover you will find it very difficult to deny its authenticity. Celestial truth is found within its pages and I urge you (and anyone else) to sincerely pray about the nature and purpose of the Book of Mormon. I promise you that if you do you will not be disappointed.
