LATTER DAY LIGHT
Illuminate Truth
“But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin . . . ” (James 2:9).
I was raised in blessed circumstances. My father was a school teacher, and my mother worked part time to help out financially. We had a nice three bedroom home with a yard big enough to give us something to do when we complained of boredom. We certainly were not rich,...
Tithes and Offerings
In a small town on the west coast of the north island of New Zealand lived just such a lady. She and her husband had served as building missionaries in the 1950\’s at the temple near Hamilton. Now, many years later, they were living in a nice but humble home on the beach in Waitara enjoying retired life.
“For we labor diligently . . . to persuade our children . . . to believe in Christ” (2 Nephi 25:23)
Jesus tells us that in the last days, “the love of many shall wax cold” (Matthew 24:12). We see this all around us in every aspect of our lives, but most especially within families where love should reign supreme.
“That ye may show forth good examples unto them in me” (Alma 17:11).
The Spirit of the Lord molds individuals into uncommon men and women. It was the Spirit within Ammon that gave him the courage to stand up against those who would scatter the king’s flocks.
Trusting in God
Sometimes we don’t understand or see the hand of God in our lives as we go about our day to day life. But as we grow older we begin to see and recognize His hand in events of the past. For me, one experience as a young nineteen-year-old, has caused to do just that.The...
“. . .work out your own salvation with fear and trembling” (Philippians 2:12).
In order to “work out our own salvation,” we must first come to know our Father in Heaven and Jesus Christ who He sent to save us all. Knowledge of divine and spiritual things is absolutely essential for our salvation.
“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise” (2 Peter 3:9).
The prophet Nephi wrote, “. . . if the Lord in his condescension unto the children of men hath visited men in so much mercy, why should my heart weep and my soul linger in the valley of sorrow, and my flesh waste away, and my strength slacken, because of mine...
Wainuiomata
Spring was coming to Wainuiomata, New Zealand. Elder Wihongi and I had not found many friendly faces interested in learning more about the Church. In fact, it had been a long cold winter in several different ways.
“They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him” (Titus 1:16)
As a person studies and learns about Jesus Christ, they come to learn of his personality. They learn of his attributes and characteristics which the Prophet Joseph Smith taught were essential to develop faith in him. As we learn more about him, we desire to be like him and begin to incorporate his attributes and characteristics in our own life.
Teacher Appreciation and Education
There are many wonderful teachers that have worked hard every day to teach the children in their care that deserve our gratitude and thanks.
