Through Me

Hello, I’m a person just like you,
And I have made many mistakes, too.

I’ve stumbled off the narrow path
And given into jealousy and wrath.

I’ve said things unkind and cruel,
Made stupid mistakes, been a fool.

I’ve given in to my dark side.
I’ve cheated, stolen, and lied.

Slumped in defeat, I’ve given in
To the devil’s temptation and sin.

I’ve had many redos and retakes.
Yes, I’ve made my share of mistakes.

And for a long time, I thought they made me
Unworthy to reach eternity.

Wallowing in guilt, drowning in shame,
In despair, I whispered His name.

With a voice of sorrow, I cried,
“Lord, I can’t be perfect, and I’ve tried.

I’ve tried to be strong, I’ve tried to be tough,
But even my all is not enough.”

A voice whispered: “That’s why I had to die.
No matter your strength or how you try.

In this world perfect you cannot be,
But you can be made perfect through me

I have made it so redemption
Does not require perfection.

On the cross I took your mistakes, your strife,
So that through me you have eternal life.

All I ask is that you try your best.
Come to me, and I will do the rest.

Bring all your mistakes and all your heart—
That’s all I ask of you on your part.

I will forgive whom I will forgive,
And to you, forgiveness I give.

So lay down your burdens and grief,
And through me, you will have relief.

Give me your hand and come follow me,
And you’ll make your way to eternity.”
