Answer: William Ludlow McIntyre was born August 27, 1811 in Middlefield, Otsego, New York to Aaron A. McIntyre and Clarinda Lomas. He married Roxannah Brown in Steuben, New York in 1830.
William became a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1843 and moved to Nauvoo, Illinois. Here in Nauvoo William worked on the temple and was ordained a Seventy. He was endowed in the Nauvoo Temple on January 23, 1846. In the fall of 1846, due to the persecution there, he and his family left Nauvoo with the Saints. He enlisted in the Mormon Battalion and served on the staff as Assistant Surgeon. He made it to San Diego, California in January 1847. He then went back to Nebraska to get his wife and children.
William and his wife and two children immigrated to Utah on June 17, 1847 in the Daniel Spencer/Ira Eldredge Company. There were 177 individuals and 76 wagons in the company when it began its journey from the outfitting post on the Elkhorn River about 27 miles west of Winter Quarters, Nebraska. They arrived in Utah on September 22, 1847.
In 1849 they moved to California and settled near Sacramento and then in San Bernardino. By 1860 William had moved back to Utah. He was divorced from his first wife, who stayed in California. He married Mary Roscoe on July 17, 1864 in Ogden, Utah. They had five children.
Dr. William McIntyre became Ogden’s first physician. He died in Ogden, Weber, Utah on October 23, 1887 and is buried in the Ogden City Cemetery.
